As it is grown from a marcot it will fruit very close to the ground which will also make them easier to pick.
The red papaya can still be grown in colder places like Victoria or South Australia in pots or in the ground but will do better in pots so that they can be moved indoors on cold nights. If they are in the ground blankets can be used on top of the soil and also for covering the trees at night. They will still lose their leaves in winter in cold climates but will shoot back new growth in spring. They love good drainage so perlite should be used in pots.If planting in the ground some sand and perlite would help their drainage requirements as well.
